Week 4 (x 2!)

Around the Morgan house the last two weeks have consisted of all things Native American. We are on week 4 of our My Father's World studies, but we stretched it into two weeks so we could dive a little deeper into the topic and read a few more great books.

We read this book with our MFW studies. It is a fascinating, kid-friendly approach to several different North American People groups.

Here Luke and Ben are practicing Native American sign language found in the book.

Making Wigwams (On a side note I have had several wild Indians running around my house these last two weeks. It is especially hilarious to watch Caleb keep up with the older kids!)

 Okay, so our wigwams had a few knights thrown in for play. A bit of creative license is needed sometimes to make do!

 

Luke and Ben also had a chance to make a teepee.

 

 

 

Our family SL read aloud book this two weeks has been Elizabeth George Speare's The Sign of the Beaver. The entire family has really enjoyed this storyline. Even the littlest ones whine when it is time to stop reading and not continue with the next chapter!  Not all of our read aloud choices I have planned for this year will fit in as nicely with what we are studying as this one did.

The boys have read The Courage of Sarah Noble and Sarah Whitcher's Story, both excellent readers the boys devoured! MFW has these both as scheduled read alouds, but they were more appropriate as readers this year for Luke and Ben.

 Our little people always love a chance to play with old medicine droppers and water.

They also loved playing in dry rice. Although, once again it is probably best that I did not get an after shot picture of this activity. Hint, we were sweeping up rice kernels for days!

Gracie loves to teach her babies all that she is learning!

This last two weeks we have also been soaking up as much time at the pool as possible before it closes for the season. We will be sad to see it close at the end of next week. We are excited for some cooler weather to play more often in the backyard and parks!
