Happy Resurrection Day!!

We have had a fun week preparing to celebrate the Resurrection of our Lord! All week we worked through a special book with Resurrection Eggs. This was Jacob's first year with the eggs and it was a favorite activity. Each night they had an egg to open that told them a piece of the story of the Resurrection. Then we made Resurrection bread consisting of marshmallows wrapped in dough to represent Christ's body placed in the tomb (oven). Once baked the "tomb" is empty!

Dying eggs

Caleb just got to watch this year.

Easter morning

We had to hunt for eggs and take pictures inside this year due to the cold rain.

This 1st Easter has tuckered Caleb out!

Happy Easter from the Morgan family! He is risen indeed!!!!

School in progress...

It has been a bit since our last school update. I don't seem to have as many pictures lately. We have been so busy "doing school" I don't always have time to stop and take pictures.  As a side note, I have to tell you in advance.....it looks like all of these pictures were taken on the same day. They were not. All the kids have had huge growth spurts this winter and when Spring hit, I put away most of their winter clothes that were too small. Well, silly me....we have had two plus more weeks of unusually cold weather. Hence the fact that my poor children look like they only have one or two sets of clothes. Ha! :) We are all more than ready for some spring weather (and clothes)!

One thing is for certain, in the Morgan school we do a LOT of reading!

I just love this picture (although Luke's nose got blurred somehow). Isn't Caleb so studious looking? :)

Field Trip to the Wake Forest Police Department.

Ben showing how to use our homemade plumb lines, after learning about Nehemiah and the rebuilding of Jerusalem's walls in our TOG history studies.

Making clay pots in Art class was a favorite activity for the kids.

Okay, this is not really school related...just a cute picture of our four boys playing together.

Gracie is enjoying her school time with Mommy. Here she is working on some fine motor activities, stringing and sorting beads.

All year we have watched and waited for the opportunity to use our safety goggles in our science experiment kit. We finally got to use them making a rocket! Of course, we only had one set so we had to share and wear sunglasses too.

The actual liftoff was less than spectacular, and the safety goggles were a bit overkill.....but we still had fun. :) Daddy's now on a mission to provide the kids with a more successful rocket launch. (All for the sake of science, of course!)

This has been a fun year to study astronomy. There have been asteroids and meteors making the news. Jupiter was visible during the day this month, and there was a comet this month as well. We were never actually able to see the comet but we have fun watching the news and looking at pictures. All things I would have not really thought twice about outside of teacher mode!

One cool dude. Too cool for safety goggles!

We have continued to enjoy our family read aloud time. Recently we finished up one of our Sonlight choices, Twenty and Ten by Claire Huchet Bishop. Both of the boys loved this book, and Grandma even read it when she came to visit. It always surprises me which stories will be favorites for which son. This was Ben's favorite read a loud book all year. While he loves reading, he is more active and won't generally ask for a book during play time. This one was different. He kept begging all weekend long to finish it. Interesting, because it deals with some pretty heavy topics (Nazi's, Jewish children in hiding, etc.) Of course at this age, we don't delve too much into the details, but this true story has a happy ending, thankfully!

Jacob's Birthday (cont.)

Here are a few pictures from the rest of our birthday celebration.

This year I was not going to do any special themed parties or cakes for birthdays. I caved a wee bit though since Jacob loves trains so much. I really wanted to try making him a train cake. He loved it!

When Jacob came downstairs from his nap and saw the train, he had the biggest eyes and smile. He then started singing "Happy Birthday" to himself! So cute!

On Monday, his actual birthday, Jeff and I were able to take Jacob out for breakfast. Each of the kids have really enjoyed this special time with Mommy and Daddy alone! Thank you Grandma and Grandpa for helping watch the older kiddos!

Monday was cold and rainy, so we went to the mall to play at the indoor playground and ride the train. Yes, Jacob got to ride two trains for his birthday this year!

Finally, here are just a few shots I took of Jacob, our two year old!

"Are we done yet? I said CHEEEEEEESE!"

Whew, what a weekend of celebration!
