Luke's Farm Camp

This summer Luke had the opportunity to spend one week exploring a nearby Farm Camp! Now, if you know anything about Luke, you will understand just how much this camp was tailor made for him! Luke is our child who, if given the choice, would transport himself into the Little House on the Prairie as the older brother of Laura! So, when we saw an advertisement for this first ever camp at a local park, we knew it would be perfect for him. Thankfully Luke had some help from Grammy and Uncle Chuck and Aunt Cathy with birthday funds to help pay for camp!

At camp Luke helped with the daily chores of caring for a couple of goats.

The campers also learned about life on an early 19th century farm. Luke learned how to sew buttons.

Luke learned about bees and how to extract fresh honey, which he brought home for us to taste!

Luke learned about cotton farming and pecan harvesting too.

One of the highlights for the week was the chance to spend time with a few animals! Luke's favorite event of the week was his mule ride. His next favorites: fishing and making S'mores! :)

Here is a group shot of all the campers.

Luke had a chance to earn his keep with some blood, sweat and tears. Well, maybe not tears but he did come home with some serious blisters all over his hands!

It was not all work though. Luke also got a chance to learn what they did for fun on a farm.

Luke loved to play the banjo and even got to make one of his own.

It was so great to see Luke right in his element! I know he must have just soaked it all up!! I love the inclusion of learning the banjo at a farm camp!! That should be a prerequisite for any farmer!! Love you all!
