Lots of Meat

Recently our family was introduced to Zaycon Foods/Meats. Zaycon is basically a company that is a distributor of wholesale meats straight from the farmer, removing the middle man. They only come to certain areas once a year, but they have amazing prices on wholesale super healthy, never been frozen, meats. Why have I never heard of this before?

The company is listed under Dave Ramsey's website and others as a way to cut down on grocery bills and feed busy families. We tried this out for the first time this summer. I have been considering trying to figure out a way to maybe do a modified Once A Month cooking for our family, but I am not quite sure of that idea yet since it is overwhelming to me! :) Buying bulk meats would certainly help with a plan similar to Once a Month.

It looks like the company make rounds about once a year with each type of meet (ground beef, chicken, and pork.) Here in NC they had ground beef in July and will have skinless boneless chicken breasts in the fall. Here is the link

They only sell their meats in bulk, cases of 40 lbs at a time. Their lean gr. beef (97/3%) is $3.99/lb which here is at least .50-$1 cheaper than Costco or Walmart. If you buy the ground beef this summer, than you are eligible for the boneless skinless chicken breasts at $1.49/lb in October. (Here the same at Costco is $2.99/lb) If you don't buy the ground beef the price of the chicken is is $1.89/lb.

On the pickup day you don't even have to get out of your car. You just drive up and they load your car with the meat for you. You just need to be prepared to divide it up so you don't end up with a 40lb block of meat!

I am just excited about this find and wanted to pass on the info to other like minded families that are trying to stretch a budget!

Here are a few pictures of our first experience with Zaycon Meats! We wish we would have almost bought a second case once we saw and tasted the quality of this meat!!

I split most of the meat into (12) gallon freezer bags. Each bags holds approx. 2.5 lbs of ground beef, the perfect amount for a large casserole or 8-10 hamburgers for our family. Thankfully, we have a large deep freezer to hold all this meat!

The rest of the ground beef was turned into one large meatloaf, two bags of precooked seasoned ground beef for casseroles or spaghetti sauce, and two bags of cooked taco seasoned beef. That makes 17 meals plus leftovers for our family!

This has been a really great experience so far for our family. The ground beef was really very high quality and delicious. We are excited to bring home our chicken from Zaycon in the fall!!

Shelby and I were planning on doing that...but all over PHX, the ground beef was sold out. WE are looking at doing the chicken though. Thanks for the idea!
