The month of March has been a very busy month! We spent the month of March studying planting, farming, and farm animals! Our verses this month included Psalm 147:8, Genesis 1:29, Psalm 104:14, and Matthew 9:37! We read tons of informative books on gardening, farm life, and animals. Some of our family favorites included:

We started out by planting some of our very own seeds for our family garden!

We had several options for sensory busy time play. One week we played in seeds and beans, another week was oats, and another was cornmeal. Although, this does allow for hours of somewhat quiet play.....it also can be a bit messy to clean up!

In other news, we also continued our studies of ancient Greece with some gymnasium wrestling practice for PE! The boys remember this as one of their favorite activities when we studied ancient Greece four years ago!

Look how cute and little they were wrestling four years ago!!

In science we continued our studies with learning about Eratosthenes and his sieve.

Corn painting

Oats sensory play with tractors and trucks!

Where do our favorite fruits and vegetables grow?

Greek tragedy and comedy masks!

Root experiment with colored water and celery:

History hike at a NC historical farm picking cotton:

Learning about how cotton is processed:

Learning about which jobs kids would do on the farm....sorry Isaac, the youngest child gets to empty the chamber pots!

Laundry time:

Feeding the goats and chickens:

Field trip to farmers market with a scavenger hunt. We discovered that our children love turnips and Russian Red Kale "chips!" Who knew? We were determined to purchase something we had never tried before and research recipes. We have been eating very adventurously lately!

Winterpast petting zoo/farm of rescued animals: we were able to feed and hold all kinds of fun new friends!

Gracie's favorite animal is the peacock, so you can guess how thrilled she was that this fellow was strutting his stuff while we were visiting!

This was the family favorite by far, even for Mommy and Daddy! An adorable bunny named Eeyore! We wanted to bring him home, but decided against it! :)

We fed donkeys, chickens, goats, horses, and even emus!

Yikes! Look how brave our Jake is feeding this Emu! Mommy has a particular fear of large birds, so he did not get this brave gene from me!

Next fun family animal outing.....the zoo! (This was part of our spring break!)

Caleb's pure joy with the gorillas just cracks me up!

They are not quite fitting on this rhino like they used to when they were little!

Back to our farm studies. We spent one week learning about chickens with some fun egg science experiments. We tried to crush the delicate egg to learn how the mama chicken can sit on her eggs without harming them.

We studied the different parts of the egg too.

We worked on life cycle sequencing

rhyming words

and scratched in some corn meal!

To finish off our nine week quarter studying ancient Greece, we held the second ever Morgan Olympic games complete with "javelin"  and discus throws, running races, and "chariot races."

Then we had Greek feast with pita, kabobs, hummus, grapes, dates, and goat cheese!

Isaac wanted to know if we could eat dinner this way every night!

Luke and Ben spent several science lessons learning about Galen and human anatomy and physiology.

Our final week we studied pigs and cows. We had a blast "milking" a glove!

As you can see, Isaac discovered he could aim his "milking" to get Mommy wet!

Then we made our our human churning assembly line to make homemade butter!

As we started our last quarter of our TOG studies of ancient Rome, we finished out our first week with some M&M mosaics!

If you have actually made it through all those pictures, you are amazing! It was a super full and fun month! Next month we are continuing our study of the rise of ancient Rome preparing the way for Jesus and the Gospel to spread. We will also be studying Butterflies along with New Life and the Resurrection of Christ for Easter!
