Here are our enrolled students:
Here are a few snapshots of our first busy week.
Gracie and Jacob started working on their Pre-K Handwriting.
Luke and Ben absolutely loved diving into our Early American History. This year they are each putting together a time line of their own in a notebook. I found free printable timeline sheets online and printed them on cardstock. They absolutely loved starting this project and adding their own birth to the timeline along with other events this week.
The boys are also keeping a year long notebooking journal about what they learn in history. We have also discovered that sound blocking ear phones are a huge help in weeding out distractions of younger siblings while doing school for Ben! :)
I also found these dollar calendars at Target. The boys love keeping their own school schedule and filling in all our family events. I love the fact that they don't have to ask me all the time, "How many days until.........?"
To start off our study of American history we decorated red, white and blue cookies while discussing the Pledge of Allegiance. :) Yum!
Daddy surprised us and brought home some fun balloons from a work event. They were a perfect fit to celebrate our first week of school.
Here Luke and Ben are working on some mapping activities.
Gracie and Ben teaming up to work on a GeoPuzzle of N. America. We love this puzzle. Every puzzle piece matches the actual shape of each state. What a fun way to learn state geography!
It is a full time job keeping little ones busy during school time! Thankfully Isaac has a pretty solid morning nap schedule.
Caleb loved playing with these large magnets while we worked on spelling.
I found this set of pretend coins and bills in the dollar section at Target. Jacob had a blast paying for all kinds of items.
Books, of course are a favorite way to keep busy. Daddy found a set of these super fun reading flashlights at Costco. Each of the little ones have their own flashlight that they are allowed to use and play with only during school time. The ball light section can be removed from the holder and provides hours of fun as the red or white light rolls under bookcases and chairs.
Jakey wants to read like his big brothers!
I found this idea online. You use magnetic tape on recycled paper towel rolls and place them at an angle on the fridge. What fun to drop puff balls down and watch where they end up!
Puzzles are always a good distraction too!
Gracie jumped right into her math and reading school work.
We will start our Apologia science studies next week. This week we just enjoyed our supplemental science with MFW. Here is our science experiment testing what happens to an egg in regular water and salt water.
Luke and Ben love teaching their younger brothers all about what they are learning in history. This week we were studying Leif Erikson and the early Viking Explorers to America.
One of our favorite book basket choices this week was, Leif the Lucky by Ingri and Edgar d'Aulaire.

We also really enjoyed this sweet story about the Pledge and immigrant citizenship by Pat Mora.

I think these are some of the cutest and most imaginative little Viking explorers, don't you? :)
We also started our first preview lesson of our new Master Art program. The boys started out making a portfolio to hold their artwork for the year.
Overall we had a wonderful first week of school! To celebrate we decided to implement a "fun Friday" event as often as possible. This week our fun Friday included time to swim at our pool.
Isaac was happy getting to chew on a pool ring!
Stay tuned for our next Morgan school update!
