Short but sweet

This week we made a spontaneous one day trip to Washington D.C.!! It was a very short and chaotic trip, but worth the reason we went in the first place. My brother Nick and his wife Katie from AZ were in D.C for the week. Jacob was 9 months old the last time we got to see them. It may be several years before our next visit, so we made the drive to hug on them and visit for a bit.

We had a picnic lunch in their hotel room before we headed out to the Metro!

 

Luke and Ben have already asked when we are going to go back and actually visit D.C and all that it has to offer. They LOVED being on the Metro and knowing they were so close to the White House. We will certainly be making a field trip for school back to D.C some day when little siblings are a bit older and can appreciate it too.

It was a very sad occasion that brought everyone to D.C. This year my brother lost one of his coworkers in the line of duty. Each year there is a National Police Week to remember Officers who have lost their lives serving their communities. My brother's squad made the trip to D.C to honor their lost team member.

 

 

During our visit we were able to see the National Police Memorial where they were conducting a Wreath Hanging Ceremony. This was pretty emotional. I don't even want to think about the pictures of Daddies and Husbands that were lost It hits too close to home.

 

 

 

Aunt Katie helped the kids take rubbings of the name of Nick's squad mate.

 

 

The happy side of the visit was the time we got to spend with Nick and Katie. We had to leave at 5AM to be there, so the kids were a bit cranky with early wake ups and no naps. We all survived and Nick and Katie got to meet Caleb and Isaac for the first time.

One of my dear friends from my time in the Air Force lives and works in D.C. She came to meet us at the memorial so she could see all the kids and spend some time with us.

Thanks Nick and Katie for a sweet visit with you. We wish we could have seen Mia and Wyatt too. Thank you especially to Aunt Katie. While Nick was busy with his obligations for a ceremony prior to the wreath hanging, Katie was an invaluable extra pair of helping hands with little people. 

 

The kids all had a blast with their Aunt and Uncle and loved even the short visit with them. Jacob woke up this morning asking if we would go visit his best friend, Uncle Nick, again today! :) We love you both!
