More School Updates

We have continued our fun with learning at home and on field trips over the last few weeks. Here is a snapshot of what has been going on at school!

Field Trip to a Horse Farm (missed you Aunt Raleigh and Aunt Gentry!)

Learning about Egyptian Pavement painting using pastels on paper then chalk outside. We love how our Artistic Pursuits curriculum has just dovetailed perfectly with our TOG studies. We have learned about all these ancient civilizations in history, and we also study their unique art forms. I had no idea when we decided to go with Artistic Pursuits that it would fit so well!

In art we also learned about the sculptural technique called "Bas Relief" used in Ancient Mesopotamia, Egypt, Greece, and Rome.

Tot school for Jacob and Gracie

We have continued our study of Ancient Greece, this time focusing more on the "Golden Age" of Greece. One of our books suggested a few recipes to try. One night for dinner we made baked coriander fish. I love fish, but I am always nervous about cooking it. The kids devoured it! Just about every night since Luke has asked me to make it again! So simple! We crushed coriander seeds with sea salt. With a small amount of olive oil in a pan we sprinkled the coriander and salt on a cod filet, covered with aluminum foil and baked for 20 min. After cooking we sprinkled a bit of cooking white wine on top to serve, yummy!

Here we are making Athenian "Honey Fritters" for a snack. (Much like a thin pancake with honey and sesame seeds).

Here the kids are making their own Greek Clay Seals, although we made ours out of cookie dough and then baked them for a snack! :)

Here are a few of our favorite books:

What a fun series of books! The boys LOVE the Magic Tree House book we read about the Olympics. I think they may be reading many more of these in the near future.





The boys also loved learning about Alexander the Great this month. This book is beautiful and not too gory thankfully!

 

 This Aesop's Fables book was beautiful and fun to read. Gracie and Jacob loved this one as much as Luke and Ben.





This was another favorite during our study of Greek culture.

 

In science we have learned about the tumultuous climates on Uranus and Neptune. We learned about cloud formation, and got a chance to make our own clouds in a jar! (We poured boiling water in a jar, lit a match and threw it in while covering the top with a bag of ice.)

We have been working on writing personal letters this week. I think these are just so cute, I had to share them. The boys were given the assignment to write a personal letter to someone. Here are the unedited versions...priceless! Luke chose to write to Daddy, and Ben wrote a thank you for a birthday gift (he got to go to Build a Bear last week thanks to our friends Andy and Emily!)

P.E. includes lifting or giving piggy-back rides to siblings to make them giggle and laugh! :) Thankfully the weather has been much warmer too. We are spending a TON of time outdoors!

We will be taking a short "spring break" from our TOG studies while we enjoy a much needed visit from Papa next week. We will then finish up our last weeks of school diving into Ancient Rome!
