School Days 2017

We have now officially finished our first few months of school! Here are a few pictures of our Morgan homeschool! Of course we have our traditional first of school photos!

After we finished our first day of school, we celebrated our last day at the pool!

We celebrated the unique opportunity to observe the Great American solar eclipse on August 21st! Talk about science at your doorstep!

Gracie started up her fourth year of ballet. This year she is taking a classical ballet class as well as a worship ballet class.

Here is another month of STEM science that we enjoyed! We learned all about being architects!

One month we studied the science behind toys. Our favorite was the Slinky down the stairs.

We have also been more intentional about cooking lessons this semester.

 

 

Our Spring/Summer garden is actually still thriving with tons of tomatoes and our first carrot!

 

 One of our favorite field trips of the year is always the International festival!

This year we are back to studying the Medieval Age. Which is perfect since we also have chosen to focus on "Knight training"  this year, based on a wonderful book called Knights in Training by Heather Haupt. I was blessed to hear Heather speak at the Arizona Homeschool conference! I love when our studies mesh so well together! We are studying men of valor and courage, and have plenty of opportunities to put those characteristics into play!

One of the aspects of the code of chivalry we learned was "Speak Truth at All Times." A practical game we played was using an analogy of a web as we spun a tale out of lies. Each time we had to add lies to help protect the original lie. By the time we were finished it was too difficult to avoid all the lies of the web. It was so much more freeing to run the obstacle course with truth breaking down that web of lies!

 

 This is our outside jousting tournament, aka a pool ring tied to a tree. Mommy brings home empty paper rolls from exam tables at work to use as our jousting sticks or horses!

 We also had an opportunity to go to a Renaissance Festival with some "real" jousting knights!

Other than watching the jousting tournament, the practice archery was by far a favorite spot!

 It's been a very full first few months of school!
