October Field Trips

This month we were able to go on TWO fall related field trips!

We went to a local farm for some fun fall activities. Since Daddy was at work, we were glad to have our good friend Emily join us again for a field trip!

First we went on a tractor hay ride to learn about the farm. Then we were taught how to make fresh butter! They put the thick cream in a jar with some sterilized nuts and bolts for agitation and then they taught us this song. "Shake, shake, shake, butter we will make. Churn, churn, churn, now its your turn." We all got to take turns shaking and turning. Luke and Ben took this job VERY serious!

Jacob and Gracie didn't do any shaking, but they did enjoy the song. Gracie has been singing it ever since!

Next we all got to try our homemade butter on crackers.

We then got to meet a one month old Holstein calf named Peanut. We learned all about milking cows.

We even got to "practice" milking a cow.

We also got to meet lots of other animals on the farm.

They had a huge play area for us to run and enjoy.

Mommy gets to enjoy some hugs from Gracie and Jacob.

At the end of the field trip we all got to pick out a pumpkin to take home.

Even Jacob got one that was just his size!

Our other "field trip" for the month was to our state fair! Yes, we can call it a field trip because we are studying all things fall this month, and the state fair is the epitome of fall here! Thankfully, Daddy was included in this field trip!

We saw lots of animals.

Jacob got to cuddle with Mommy in the Ergo!

We saw lots of fresh award winning produce.

This pumpkin is much bigger than anything we measured at home!

Of course we also ate lots of yummy fair food!

Luke and Ben introduced their baby brother to the fair.

And as a finale to our time at the fair, our annual tradition of deep fried Oreos. This was Gracie's first year to participate in this tradition, so she got to stand in line with Daddy.

I think she likes it!

What fun we had with our "all things fall" field trips! Homeschooling joy of the month.....getting to enjoy lots of fun activities outside with nice weather, and calling it school!
