Strawberries!

We love strawberries in our home. So today we planned a fun family outing to go pick strawberries for ourselves! It was our first time doing this as a family. We had a great time. The day was beautiful and all day Luke and Ben kept saying, "This is such a fun day!" Mommy and Daddy agreed! Luke has been asking to go to a farm to see horses for his birthday on Sunday. So we have been to a farm and now we are working on the horses part!

Getting ready to pick strawberries.

Picking strawberries was so much fun for all of us! Ben was meticulous, asking Daddy "Is this a good one," before picking every berry. Luke on the other hand had his bucket full in no time!

Even Gracie loved the strawberries, although it will be some time before she can actually eat them!

We now have enough strawberries to feed an army, so if you have any good recipes to use up fresh strawberries, please feel free to leave a comment and let us know!

Sooo cute...no, not the strawberries...the little ones!! They make me want to get on a plane and steal away to come play...wish I could. Thank you for sharing more happy family memories. Love and miss you all, Mom K..Gram

We went to pick strawberries yesterday too!!! We ended up paying for 40 pounds, but had to throw many away today because they had rotted. I don't know what happened, but it was a sad thing:(

Anyway, I'm going to try a strawberry pie recipe that my friend gave to me. Here it is in case you want to give it a shot too:

Graham cracker crust
1 cup water
1 cup sugar
2 ½ cups chopped strawberries
3 Tbps. cornstarch
3 oz. package strawberry jello

1. Cook water, sugar, and cornstarch on high in microwave for 3 minutes. Stir well and cook for 2 more minutes. Stir quickly. (The idea here is to make sure you get rid of all the lumps, but remove from heat as it starts to looks like pudding consistency)
2. Add jello and strawberries, and stir well.
3. Pour into pie crust.
4. Chill until set.
5. Top with Cool Whip and garnish with strawberry slices.

*I do step one on my stove top, but either way works well.
